Southminster is an amazing church in the Glebe (right close to Lansdowne Park). I will be preaching there on the following dates:
Jan. 15th, 29th. Feb 26th.
I am really excited to be able to get back into the pulpit and exercise my preaching muscles. I really miss this kind of work. I had the opportunity to lead worship (in traditional churches that is the person who puts the service together and gives the sermon) for this congregation a few weeks back, and am excited to be invited to return for a few engagements in the coming months. One of the things I really enjoyed about ministering at Southminster was that after the service people gathered for coffee and snacks, and we had a conversation about the message. It was that delightfully familiar small church feel and a real chance to make the message something more than just me preaching at the congregation.
Some of you know that I have been considering the United Church of Canada as a new denominational home. I love the inclusiveness of their worship as well as the desire to engage with their neighbourhoods. Southminster has this going on in spades. I would encourage you to check out their web presence to get a taste of how they are a small congregation with a big impact on their community.
Sharon and I have a bit of history with Southminster in that we were part of the Journey, a church that was really impactful on our lives, that met in the Southminster church building. We also have a connection to the community as we have participated in church life with Sunnyside Wesleyan, just around the corner. I’ve also ministered at a number of other churches in Ottawa’s Glebe community. The Glebe is a really interesting place, full of art and life.
I hope you will come join us one of these Sundays. Last time a few of my friends showed up and it was really great to connect in an in-person church context. I’ll keep you posted as to new ministry dates and venues as they arise.
